New York Deaf Theatre will be celebrating its 35th year anniversary with a party set for Friday May 1, 2015. New York Deaf Theatre (NYDT) is run by artists from this community and produces an average of two shows per year. The lead and supporting actors are always Deaf and voice actors are cast to give access to hearing audiences as well. This party is not just in celebration of their Anniversary but also a very important fundraiser.
All proceeds raised during the 35th year anniversary celebration will go toward future productions. The New York Deaf Theatre, LTD was established in 1979 in New York City and is the longest running company of its kind in the greater New York City area. They are also the third oldest Deaf Theatre company in America. They focus on production of plays in American Sign Language.
The party, held this Friday, will include a silent auction, special demonstrations of past the NYDT productions, a few announcements, a photo-booth with props from NYDT performances, music, and an assortment of food. Catering is provided by Kind Table Catering and will include a variety of gluten free, vegan, and meat based appetizers. There will also be an open bar. Starting May 1st at 7 PM in New York City, the doors will open for guests. This event is focused not only on supporting NYDT but also the mission to create opportunities for Deaf actors and artists to show their talent both on and off stage.
Tickets are priced at 75 dollars and are available on their website. At the door, the price goes up to 90 dollars. This is an opportunity to mingle with actors from past productions and find out where they are today. Pictures of attendees will be available online after the event.
*Interpreters will be provided for this event for those that are unable to sign.
