AUSTIN, Texas — The Texas School for the Deaf (TSD) has announced the creation of the Kaylee Hottle Memorial Student-Athlete Scholarship, honoring the life and legacy of senior Kaylee Hottle, whose death in July deeply impacted the Deaf community and those who knew her around the world. According to TSD, the scholarship recognizes graduating students who demonstrate the same qualities Kaylee exemplified throughout her time at the school.
Beginning each year, one or two graduating seniors will be selected based on their achievements and contributions in several areas, including:
• Excellence in athletics
• Participation in theater or the performing arts
• Leadership
• Perseverance
• Creativity
• Teamwork
• Positive character
• Dedication to the Texas School for the Deaf community
Kaylee was widely known both within the Deaf community and internationally for her role as Jia in Godzilla vs. Kong and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. Beyond her acting career, she was an accomplished student-athlete and active member of the TSD community. (Fox 7 Austin)
TSD said the scholarship is intended to ensure that Kaylee’s legacy continues by encouraging future generations of students to pursue excellence, serve others, and contribute to their school community both on the field and on the stage. (Instagram)
How to Support the Scholarship
Individuals wishing to honor Kaylee’s memory may contribute in one of two ways:
Directly through the Texas School for the Deaf
Contact Peter Bailey at tsdsuperintendent@tsd.texas.gov. Donations will be designated exclusively for the Kaylee Hottle Memorial Student-Athlete Scholarship.
Through the Texas School for the Deaf Foundation
Tax-deductible donations may also be made through the Texas School for the Deaf Foundation. Contributions designated for the Kaylee Hottle Memorial Student-Athlete Scholarship will directly support the fund in accordance with the Foundation’s charitable giving policies.
TSD emphasized that every contribution, regardless of size, will help preserve Kaylee Hottle’s legacy by supporting future students who embody excellence in athletics, the performing arts, leadership, and service to the TSD community. (Instagram)
