On April 30, 2014 Orange News posted an article about a sign language interpreter (also called a newsman in their title) who has suddenly become a celebrity in Chile because he had decided to share a report about Ricky Martin singing the theme song for the World Cup in Brazil. When sharing this story, he did a “little dance of his own.”

The newsman is known as Sergio Mendoza Melso and he said,”I wanted to show people that even deaf people like to listen to music – and can appreciate the beat even if completely deaf.”

As a fan of Ricky Martin, Melso turned the song, “Vida” into something that his deaf viewers on
TVN (a Chilean television channel) could understand and appreciate. The report was created to focus on the 2014 World Cup and Ricky Martin.

This is the continuance of interpreters going viral for doing things they feel will allow people to understand the music shared. Is this another case of somebody wanting attention or did he really have genuine intentions behind doing this video?
